Greenway Women’s Group
Children’s profile: 0-4 year olds
Organisation profile: Women’s centre providing women and their families with positive experiences for development
Project overview: Daycare provision with support for children with additional needs
As a daycare the centre remained open throughout lockdown for children of keyworkers and vulnerable children.
A ‘Rainbow of Hope’ was placed outside the setting and families were encouraged to pin a message of hope on it while out for their daily walk.
The centre made use of a range of technologies and software, to keep regular contact with children who weren’t attending. These included Facebook, Tapestry, an online journal app which allows early years providers to record children’s journey of development and share this with the parents and zoom, a video conferencing app.
Daily activities were posted on Facebook and Tapestry for parents to carry out with the children. Activities packs were delivered to help families carry out the activities. Weekly zoom sessions were provided for the children to participate in and zoom sessions for the family focused on child development and family support were also provided. Further family support was provided via phone and where needed families were signposted to other agencies and support to help them manage through lockdown. Solihull parenting programme continued via video.
The end of the year was celebrated with the children with a ‘walk by’ at the nursery where each child had a photograph taken and received a small gift and certificate.
